Phonosurgery

Phono surgery or laryngoplastic phonosurgery or voice surgery is a new group of surgeries that aims to maintain, restore or enhance the human voice. Phono surgery also includes phonomicrosurgery or microsurgery of the vocal folds done by using microscope, laryngoplastic phonosurgery or Laryngeal Frame work surgery and injection laryngoplasty or injecting bio compatible material into vocal cords to improve voice.

Indications:-

  • Hoarseness of voice due to unilateral vocal cord palsy
  • Hoarseness of voice due to sulcus vocalis
  • Puberphonia
  • Spasmodic dysphonia
  • Presbylarynx - Dysphonia due to old age bowing of vocal cords

Evaluation of Voice Disorders:-

  • Patient's interview
  • Subjective assessment of voice
  • Video-laryngoscopy/ Video stroboscopy
  • Voice recording
  • Objective voice analysis or acoustic analysis using software
  • Imaging studies where indicated
